“A portfolio is a systematic and organized collection of evidence used by the teacher and student to monitor growth of the student’s knowledge, skills and attitudes.” (Linda Vavrus, Put Portfolios to the Test) When selecting samples of work, the goal is to choose pieces that illustrate a student’s current independent ability. As such, the pieces selected should reflect the standard that you consider to be the student’s typical level that they can produce on a consistent basis. It is also important to include student self-reflection that summarizes their growth and learning. |
